Walls
Using a state of the art timber-frame construction, the walls are multilayered (up to 10 layers) giving the Shomera excellent insulation and weathering properties. Between the external finish and the timber-framed structure a vented cavity is created with pressure-treated batten & counter-batten layers. A waterproof breather membrane provides a secondary weathering layer over the structure which consists of a sheathing layer fixed to the framing timbers which are in-filled with insulation. In some cases an additional layer of continuous rigid insulation is attached to the inside of the frame to further improve the thermal performance. The interior walls are dry-lined with moisture resistant foil backed plasterboard which is skim coated to provide a seamless finish and leaves walls ready for decoration. The insulation levels of a Shomera Built house extension exceed Building Regulations and can be specified to passive house levels.
