The project involved the construction of a new extension to accommodate 2 new classrooms, a library, principal’s office, staff toilets, disabled WC and a new linking corridor with 2 platform lifts.

A Multi-Level Victorian Style

The school consists of a Victorian style redbrick school and a later two storey extension with both buildings at different levels linked by a corridor. As a condition of planning, the drainage for the whole site had to be re-done to separate the sewage and rain water.

the school project had unusual height criteria we successfully integrated the new building with the old school

A Sympathetic Addition

In addition to the extensive drainage works and demolition works care had to be taken with split level foundations being dug on a sandy, reclaimed site.

The building design by Keogan Architects was sensitive to the location of a new, modern extension between two buildings of different eras. Brick slips and spandrel panel glazing at the junctions between the existing buildings is sympathetic while giving the new extension its own identity.
