Howth House Extension and Renovation

Project Description

Though a large detached house, like many of its era, the kitchen was disproportionately small and did not get a lot of natural light. The brief was to create a better working kitchen integrated to dining and living areas. This Howth House Extension and Renovation was a pleasure to work on.

Project Details

Location Howth
Type House Extension
Length 9 weeks
Features Refurbished utility stone cladding on existing walls, new windows at FF.

From the “before” photographs you will see that the kitchen has now been flooded with light and integrated into the new large open-plan living area.  The introduction of roof lights on the newly-created mono-pitch roof and the use of low profile roof lights in the new extension gives the clients a bright, light-filled living area all year round.

My wife had been considering an extension for many years and once we met Frank from Shomera at the Ideal Homes, it started to become a reality.  Frank accurately captured our requirements while understanding my apprehension for change and the chaos that can accompany these projects.

The interaction around the design was great with inputs from all sides being incorporated into the final design.  To Shomera’s credit they managed the build from start to finish, with the total project taking 8 weeks from September to the start of November and completed just one day past the scheduled finish date.

Like any building projects there are always un-known and unforeseen issues. The big advantage of using Shomera there was a speedy and fair resolution of these issues, with good communication at all stages during the build.  The on-site staff were excellent, courteous and tidy and we now have a lovely extension with great insulation and light all day.
